Benfica have agreed a deal to sign defender Ezequiel Garay from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee. It had been widely speculated that Garay would be joining the Portuguese giants as a makeweight in the deal which saw left-back Fabio Coentrao move in the opposite direction. Benfica?s official website has now confirmed the signing of the 24-year-old who had been occupied on international duty with Argentina at the Copa America.
Garay enjoyed a fruitful spell at Racing Santander where he became recognised both for his defensive prowess and potency in the opposition?s penalty box.
